Melbourne College’s mission is to become a profitable and reputable world class education and training provider.
Objectives include growing a healthy market share with:
· A profitable and user friendly fee structure, contesting those of Victorian Universities and providers of VET courses. Appendix 1.
· Achieving competitive outcomes through operating from a flat structure to encourage initiative, open communication and positive staff values.
· Quality marketing of the stand out, iconic trading name.
· Being able to move smart in developing opportunities and worthy initiatives.
· Defining and creating operational standards at a level not equalled elsewhere.
· Meeting the needs of the local community, and industry in the public and private sectors.
· Facilitating the education sector to build and maintain links to the global community.
The Federal Government has placed education and training at the top of Australia’s economic development agenda to help ensure Australia’s international competitiveness.
Funding for the local Higher Education and the Vocational Education sectors is without precedence. “Achieving higher education and vocational education targets could generate up to around an extra $50 billion output in the Australian economy every year on average for the next 30 year.” The Hon Julia Gillard. (Now Prime Minister) Media release 26 May 2010.
Over these four years, Victoria’s vocational education and training (VET) sector has recorded the fastest growth – 332 per cent.
Launch
The timing is now right to launch Melbourne College to trade in the education and training markets and help stabilise the industry sales.
Advantages in business ‘start ups’ include the owner(s) adding their own flair and having fresh staff that will share in the enthusiasm and perform to the expectations and standards set.
Funding
Funding models can include:
The large range of Government fully funded courses. The College could grow using these funds alone.
Private sector packages, sponsorships, etc.
Sell or trade-off Melbourne College to potential purchasers such as:
· An RTO which wants to trade with a stand out, iconic business name.
· Individuals coming to Australia under a Business Migration Program.
· Someone looking for a lifestyle change, moving from a different occupation or business.
· Investors.
· A University which would like to grow a generic Melbourne College or Academy. Such as Monash University recently launching Monash College.
Competitors
There are several hundred private colleges operating in Melbourne. Most are located around the CBD in high rises, functioning in one or two rooms. They range from providing one or two subjects to 60 students to others accommodating 500 – 1000+ students.
Class Location
There are many options:
· Lease of University facilities. Class or hall lease can be hourly or more, booked in advance. Rents vary with each University.
· Business Incubators. Melbourne has many of these supportive business environments.
· Private facilities, including Council or church halls.
· CBD high rises are in abundance with competitive lease arrangements.
· Mortgage or purchase of own property.
Management
An investor with no experience in this industry would be given hands on support to become established. There is excellent software to make everything run smoothly and achieve good quality face to face and eLearning systems.
There is an abundance of Government and private sector individuals, information, and support networks, etc., to ensure end user satisfaction and creation of a profitable business that can be handed down to family, generation after generation.
