YEAR 6 student Parrys Raines was the star of the tournament, scoring 19 goals in seven games to help The Illawarra Grammar School win their annual gala day soccer tournament at Judy Masters Oval recently.

The seventh annual tournament featured 22 schools from as far west as Orange, south to Ulladulla, plus Mittagong, Campbelltown and across the South Coast and Sydney.

TIGS won the girls' event thanks in no small measure to the brilliant effort from Raines, who scored 19 of her team's 22 goals, in their seven straight wins.

Raines, part of the Metropolitan South representative team, scored both goals in the final against Moriah College, Bondi Junction and was the undisputed star of the carnival. The TIGS boys' team also performed well, winning three games and making the semi-finals, before losing 1-0 to Moriah College.

Dominic Riordan scored four goals in TIGS' six games to be named their outstanding player on the day.

The TIGS Trophy Football gala day has proved popular in recent years and will return in 2008.
